Maxamaid

What is it?

A number of nutritional preparations used for patients with inborn meteabolic disorders: XP MAXAMAID, available as a phenylalanine-free, unflavoured or orange- flavoured powder containing 30g of essential and non-essential amino acids, 51g of carbohydrate and less than 0.5g of fat per 100g, supplying 309kca1 per 100g.

Medical Uses

Phenylketonuria (a genetic disorder that results in the deficiency of an enzyme that converts phenylalanine, an essential amino acid, into tyrosine. An excess of phenylalanine in the blood can cause severe mental retardation; tested for at birth by means of the Guthrie Test). XP MAXAMAID CONCENTRATE, an unflavoured, phenylalanine-free powder containing 65g of essential and nonessential amino acids, 5g of carbohydrate and less than 0.5g of fat per 100g, supplying 239kca1 per 100g. Also, MSUD MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but without the amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine, supplying 309kca1 per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Medical Uses

Maple Syrup urine disease (a metabolic disorder in which the enzyme required for the breakdown of leucine, isoleucine and valine is lacking, characterised by distinctive odour of urine and increased reflex reactions). XMET MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but lacking methionine, supplying 309kcal per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Medical Uses

Hypermethioninaemia (elevated levels of methionine in blood) or vitamin B6 non-responsive homocysteinuria (abnormal presence of homoeysteine in urine and blood, caused by enzyme deficiency). XLYS, TRYLOW MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but without lysine and low in tryptophan, supplying 309kcal per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Glutaric aciduria Type 1.XMET, THEE, VAL, ISOLEU MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but without threonine, valine and methionine and low in isoleucine supplying 309kcal per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Proprionic acidaemia or methylmalonic acidaemia. XPHEN, TYR MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but without phenylalanine and tyrosine, supplying 309kca1 per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Medical Uses

Tyrosinaemia. XYLS MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but without lysine, supplying 309kcal per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Medical Uses

Hyperlysinaemia (raised levels of lysine in blood). XLEU MAXAMAID, the same formula as XP Maxamaid but without leucine, supplying 309kcal per 100g of unflavoured powder.

Medical Uses

Isovaleric acidaemia.

Dosage

For reconstitution with water to feed as directed by specialist.

Nutrtiionally incomplete.
