Maxitrol

What is it?

A compound preparation in the form of eyedrops combining a corticosteroid, aminoglycoside, lubricant and peptide. It contains 0.1% dexamethasone, 0.35% neomycin sulphate, 0.5% hypromeilose, 6000 units polymyxin B sulphate/ml. Also, MAXI'T'ROL OINTMENT containing 0.1% dexa-methasone, 0.35% neomycin sulphate and 6000iu polymixin B sulphate per gram.

Medical Uses

Infected and inflamed conditions of the eye.

Dosage

Drops, insert 1 to 2 drops 4, 5 or 6 times each day; ointment, apply 3 or 4 times each day.

Special Care

Long-term use by pregnant women or in babies.

Avoid Use

Patients with glaucoma, tuberculous, viral or fungal infections or those producing pus; patients with soft contact lenses.

Known Side Effects

Cataract, thinning of cornea, rise in pressure within eye, fungal infection.
