Merbentyl

What is it?

An anticholinergic preparation available as white tablets containing 10mg of dicyclomine hydrochloride, markedM within 2 circles and white oval tablets containing 20mg, marked MERBENTYL 20. Also, MERBENTYL SYRUP containing 10mg of dicyclomine hydrochloride per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Spasm of stomach and gastrointestinal tract.

Dosage

Adults, 10 to 20mg 3 times each day before or after meals. Children, 6 months to 2 years, 5 to 10mg 3 or 4 times each day fifteen minutes before food with a maximum of 40mg daily. Over 2 years, 10mg 3 times each day. Special cure: enlarged prostate gland, glaucoma, reflux oesophagitis with hiatus hernia.

Avoid Use

Children under 6 months of age.

Known Side Effects

Thirst, dry mouth, sedation, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, blurring of vision, headache, rash, anorexia, constipation, painful urination.
