Mexitil

What is it?

A class I antiarrhythmic preparation available as purple/red capsules contain 50mg of mexiletine hydrochloride and red capsules containing 200mg of mexiletine hydrochloride, both marked with strength and symbol. A/so, MEXlTlL INJECTION containing 25mg of mexiletine hydrochloride per ml in ampoules for injection.

Medical Uses

Arrhythmias originating from the ventricles of the heart.

Dosage

Capsules, adults, 400 to 600mg at first then a further 200 to 250mg 2 hours later, repeated 3 or 4 times each day. Injection, as directed by specialist.

Special Care

Heart, kidney or liver failure, slow heartbeat, dysfunction of sinus node of heart, low blood pressure, conduction defects, Parkinson's disease.

Avoid Use

Children.

Known Side Effects

Effects on central nervous system, low blood pressure, gastrointestinal upset.
