Micanol
What is it?
An antipsoriatic preparation available as a cream in two strengths, containing either 1% or 3% dithranol.
Medical Uses
Chronic and subacute psoriasis, including that affecting the scalp.
Dosage
Adults and children, start with 1% strength and use on a small area at first, leaving on for 10 minutes and then wash off with luke-warm water. Increase contact time to 30 minutes over next 7 days. If well tolerated and a good response is achieved, thinly apply 3% cream after 1 or 2 weeks to all affected areas. Rub in well and wash off after 30 minutes. Psoriasis of the scalp, wash hair then apply cream and wash off within half an hour.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding (do not use on breast or allow cream to come into contact with baby), do not use on skin folds, genital area, broken skin, face, eyes or mucous membranes. Special care if potent steroids have been recently used. Wash cream off with luke-warm water only and do not use hot water, soap or shampoo.
Avoid Use
Babies and very young children, inflamed skin or acute psoriasis with pustules.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Propylene glycol, drugs causing sensitivity to light.
