Micronor-HRT
What is it?
An hormonal, progestogen preparation available as white tablets containing 1mg of norethisterone marked with a C over 1.
Medical Uses
In conjunction with oestrogenin hormone replacement therapy.
Dosage
Women, 1 tablet each day on days 15 to 26 of monthly cycle.
Special Care
High blood pressure, fibroids in womb, asthma, epilepsy, liver disease, diabetes, melanoma, gallstones, family history of breast cancer, breast disease, SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus), porphyria (a rare, inherited metabolic disorder involving increased production of naturally occurring substances called porphyrins), multiple sclerosis. If persistent breakthrough bleeding occurs, an endometrial biopsy should be carried out.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe liver disorders, Rotor and Dubin- Johnson syndromes, pemphigoid gestationis (skin disorder arising in pregnancy), previous jaundice in pregnancy, severe itching.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Meprobamate, antibiotics, hydantoins, phenylbutazone, barbiturates, carbamazepine, activated charcoal.
Known Side Effects
Weight changes, nausea, fluid retention, effects on libido, head ache, breast tenderness.
