Migramax

What is it?

An analgesic and anti- emetic preparation available as a powder in sachets containing 1.62g of lysine aspirin equivalent to 900mg of aspirin and 10mg of metclopramide, as hydrochloride.

Medical Uses

Migraine, vomiting and nausea.

Dosage

Adults aged over 20 years, 1 sachet in water at start of attack, repeated after 2 hours if needed with a maximum dose of 3 doses in 24 hours.

Special Care

Menorrhagia (painful, heavy periods), women using IUD contraception, gout, liver or kidney disease, epilepsy, patients who consume high quantities of alcohol.

Avoid Use

Young persons and children aged less than 20 years, women in final 3 months of pregnancy, breestfeeding, bleeding disorders, haemorrhage or obstruction of gastrointestinal tract, previous stomach ulcer, phaeochromocytoma (tumour of adrenal gland), allergy to aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

NSAIDs, hypoglycaemic drugs taken by mouth, diuretics, anticholinergics, sodium valproate, methotrexate, interferon, drugs used in Parkinson's disease, digoxin, uricosurics, phenytoin, antacids, neuroleptics, corticosteroids.

Known Side Effects

Drowsiness, extrapyramidal effects (arising from structures outside the cerebrospinal pyramidal tracts of the brain - usually symptoms of involuntary movements, abnormalities in posture and altered muscle tone), gastrointestinal bleeding and upset, disorders involving endocrine glands.
