Migril
What is it?
A compound preparation combining an ergot alkaloid, antihistamine and xanthine available as scored, white tablets containing 2mg of ergotamine tartrate, 50mg of cyclizine hydrochloride and 100mg of caffeine hydrate, coded CP A4A.
Medical Uses
Relief of migraine.
Dosage
Adults, 1 at start of migraine attack followed by 1/2 to 1 tablet at 30 minute intervals. Maximum dose is 4 tablets during course of single migraine attack and 6 tablets in any 7 day period.
Special Care
Overactive thyroid gland, infective hepatitis, sepsis, anaemia.
Avoid Use
Children, elderly persons, pregnancy, breast-feeding, patients with heart or circulatory disease, high blood pressure.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
B-bloekers, centralnervous system depressants, alcohol, erythromycin, protease inhibitors.
Known Side Effects
Sleepiness, rebound headache, pain in abdomen, dry mouth, peripheral ischaemia (decreased blood supploy to peripheries). If coldness in extremities occurs, treatment should be stopped. Occasionally, spasm in arteries supplying kidneys and loss of kidney function, if drug has been repeatedly used.
