What is it?

A nutritionally incomplete food supplement available as a flavoured (pineapple, vanilla) or unflavoured powder, lacking phenylalanine and containing essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate and fat and supplying 374kcal per 100g.

Medical Uses

Phenylketonuria (a genetic disorder that results in the deficiency of an enzyme that converts phenylalanine, an essential amino acid, to tyrosine. If undetected, the condition can cause severe mental retardation but it is tested for at birth by means of the Guthrie test).
