Mobic
What is it?
An NSAID and oxicam available as scored, yellow tablets in 2 strengths, containing z. 5mg and 15mg of meloxicam all marked with logo and 59D or 77C, respectively. Also, MOBIC SUPPOSITORIES, available in 2 strengths containing 7.5mg and 15mg of meloxicam.
Medical Uses
Mobic, rheumatoid arthritis, acute osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis. Mobic suppositories, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.
Dosage
Adults, Mobic, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, 15mg once each day; osteoarthritis, 7.5mg once each day, taken with food at mealtime, increasing if needed to 15mg once daily. Elderly, 7.5mg once each day at first. Suppositories, osteoarthritis, 1x7.5mg each day increasing to 15mg daily, if needed; elderly, 7.5mg each day at first. Rheumatoid arthritis, 15mg each day; elderly, 7.5mg daily.
Special Care
Previous gastrointestinal problems, especially bleeding, kidney failure, nephrotic syndrome (kidney disorder), low circulating blood volume, cirrhosis of the liver, congestive heart failure.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, inflammation of rectum and anus (proctitis) (suppositories only), stomach ulcer or history of such, severe kidney or liver failure, allergy to aspirin or NSAIDs.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Iuds, cholestyramine, antihypertensives, other NSAIDs, methotrexate, anticoagulants, cyclosporin, lithium, thrombolytics, diuretics.
Known Side Effects
Gastrointestinal upset, bleeding, ulceration or perforation of gut - patient must be monitored and advised to report symptoms, effects on heart, circulation and central nervous system, sensitivity to light, skin reactions including rash, itching, allergic nettle rash, erythema multifarme, Stevens Johnson syndrome, angioedema (in which there is widespread swelling) short-lived changes in liver tests, blood changes.
