Molipaxin
What is it?
An antidepressant preparation available as pink, film-coated, scored tablets containing 150mg of trazodone hydrochloride, marked MOLIPAXIN 150. Also, MOLIPAXIN CAPSULES, in 2 strengths: green/purple capsules containing 50mg of trazodone hydrochloride marked with logo and R365B; fawn/ purple capsules containing 100mg of trazodone hydrochloride marked with logo and R365C. Also, MOLIPAXIN LIQUID containing 50mg of trazodone hydrochloride per 5ml.
Medical Uses
Depression which may be accompanied by anxiety.
Dosage
Adults, 150mg each day as divided doses taken after meals or as single night-time dose. Dose may be increased to 300mg each day with a daily maximum of 600mg. Elderly persons, 100mg each day in divided doses after meals or as a single night-time dose. Maximum of 300mg each day.
Special Care
Serious kidney, liver or heart disease, epilepsy.
Avoid Use
Children.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Digoxin, CNS depressants, alcohol, clonidine, phenytoin, muscle relaxants, MAOIs, volatile anaesthetics.
Known Side Effects
Dizziness, nausea, headache, low blood pressure on rising upright (postural hypotension), drowsiness, priapism (abnormal, persistent erection of penis, which is painful and not associated with sexual arousal) occurs, blood changes. Drug should be withdrawn if liver dysfunction occurs.
