Multi Load CU 250

What is it?

An inter-uterine contraceptive device formed from copper wire on a polyethylene stem. Also, MULTILGAD Cu 250 SHORT, and MULTILOAD Cu 375.

Medical Uses

Contraception.

Dosage

To be inserted into womb by trained doctor according to manufacturer's instructions. Multiload Cu 250 and Multiload Cu 250 short should he replaced after 3 years and Multiload cu 375 after 5 years.

Special Care

Epilepsy, previous pelvic inflammatory disease or endoearditis, patients considered at risk of sexually acquired infections, anaemia, heavy menstrual bleeding. Examine patient 3 months following insertion then every year.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy, previous ectopic pregnancy or surgery involving fallopian tubes, severe vaginal or cervical infections, allergy to copper, abnormal, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, endometriosis or endometrial disorders, cancer of cervix, endometrium or genitalia, uterine abnormalities, patients undergoing immunosuppressive treatment.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Anticoagulants.

Known Side Effects

Pain, bleeding pelvic infection, perforation of uterus. On insertion, susceptible patients may suffer asthmatic attack, slowed heartbeat, epileptic attack. Remove in the event of perforation of uterus or cervix, severe pain and heavy bleeding that does not subside, dislodgement of device, pelvic infection that is persistent and hard to treat, pregnancy.
