Mydrilate
What is it?
An anticholinergic preparation available in the form of eyedrops in 2 strengths containing 0.5% and 1% cyclopentolate hydrochloride.
Medical Uses
Refraction and uveitis (inflammation of the uveal tract which includes the choroid, iris and ciliary body, characterized by impaired vision and can cause blindness).
Dosage
Adults, refraction, 1 drop of solution of either strength repeated after 15 minutes if needed. Uveitis, 1 or 2 drops of either strength repeated as needed. Children, refraction, under 6 years, 1 or 2 drops of 1% solution; over 6 years, 1 drop of 1% solution. Uveitis, children over 3 months, same dose as adult.
Special Care
Eye inflammation.
Avoid Use
Paralytic ileus (failure of normal movement along intestine), glaucoma, children with organic brain syndrome.
Known Side Effects
Systemic anticholinergic effects due to absorption of drops.
