What is it?
A 5HT1 agonist available as film-coated, green tablets containing 2.5mg of saratriptan as hydrochloride, marked GX CE5.
Medical Uses
Migraine attack, with or without aura.
Dosage
Adults, 1 tablet at start of attack, repeated after at least 4 hours, if symptoms return. The maximum dose is 5mg in 24 hours. Patients whose symptoms do not improve after first dose should not take a second, during the same migraine attack.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, patients at risk of heart or coronary artery disease, kidney or liver disorder, sensitivity to sulfonamides.
Avoid Use
Children aged under 18 years, elderly persons aged over 65 years, severe liver or kidney disease, previous cerebrolvascular event or transient ischaemic attack, high blood pressure which is not controlled, disease of peripheral blood vessels, Prinzmetal's angina, spasm of coronary arteries.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Ergot derivatives, methysergide, other 5HTi agonists.
Known Side Effects
Dizziness, nausea, feeling of heaviness, warmth or pain in various parts of the body including chest or throat, slow or rapid heartbeat, disturbance of vision, malaise.
