Nasonex

What is it?

A corticosteroid available as a metered dose, pump nasal spray delivering 50µg of mometasone furoate per dose.

Medical Uses

Seasonal and perennial hayfever (allergic rhinitis), treatment and prevention.

Dosage

Adults, 2 sprays in each side of nose once each day, increasing to 4 sprays, if necessary. Then reduce to 1 spray in each nostril daily when symp toms improve. Prevention of seasonal hayfever, begin treatment 2 weeks before pollen usually causes symptoms. Children, aged over 6 years, 1 spray in each nostril once each day.

Special Care

Children aged under 6 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding, changing from systemic steroids, fungal, tuberculous or viral infections.

Avoid Use

Trauma or surgery to nose, infections of nose which have not been treated.

Known Side Effects

Headaches, pharyngitis, nosebleeds, irritation or ulceration within nose.
