Nebcin
What is it?
An aininoglycoside, available as a solution in vials in 3 strengths containing 20, 40 or 80mg of tobramyein sulphate.
Medical Uses
Infections of gastrointestinal and respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, central nervous system, urinary tract; septicaemia.
Dosage
Adults, 3 to 5mg per kg of body weight each day by intramuscular or intravenous injection or intravenous infusion in 3 or 4 divided doses. Children: 6 to 7.5mg per kg of bodyweight each day in divided doses; babies up to 1 month, 4mg per kg of body weight each day in 2 doses.
Special Care
Kidney damage; control dosage and blood levels.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Loop diuretics, otheraminoglycosides, neuromuscularblocking agents.
Known Side Effects
Anaphylaxis, ototoxicity (affecting hearing and balance), nephrotoxicity (affecting kidneys), raised liver enzymes.
