What is it?

A thiazide diuretic available as scored, white tablets containing 5mg of bendrofluazide, marked NEONACLEX

Medical Uses

Fluid retention, high blood pressure.

Dosage

Adults, fluid retention, 1 to 2 tablets once each day at first with a maintenance dose of half to 1 tablet daily, taken occasionally. High blood pressure, half to 2 tablets once each day. Children, 50 to 100µg per kg of body weight each day.

Special Care

Elderly patients, pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney or liver disorders, cirrhosis of liver, SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus), diabetes, gout. Patients must be monitored for fluid and electrolyte levels and Also, for level of blood glucose.

Avoid Use

Children, Addison's disease, severe kidney or liver failure, high blood calcium levels, sensitivity to sulfonamides.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Potassium supplements, potassium sparing diuretics, carbenoxolone, opiods, corticosteroids, barbiturates, lithium, tubocurarine, alcohol, cardiac glycosides, antidiabetic drugs.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upset, skin rashes, dizziness, blood changes, sensitivity to light, disturbance of electrolyte levels and metabolism, anorexia, pancreatitis, impotence. Drug should be immediately withdrawn in the event of signs of ulceration or obstruction of small bowel. Maaufacturer: Goldshield.
