Nerisone

What is it?

A potent steroid available as a cream, oily cream or ointment containing 0.1% diflucortolone valerate. Also, NERISONE FORTE, a very potent form containing 0.3% diflucrtoIone valerate, available as ointment and oily cream.

Medical Uses

Nerisone, skin disorders that respond to steroids. Nerisone Forte, initial treatment of resistant, severe skin disorders.

Dosage

Nerisone, adults and children, apply 2 or 3 times per day reducing to once per day for maintenance. If applied to face or with children, use for a maximum period of 5 days. Nerisone Forte, adults and children aged over 4 years, apply sparingly 2 or 3 times each day for a maximum of 2 weeks (maximum total use 60g per week). For maintenance use Nerisone

Special Care

Should not be used on face or on children for more than 5 days. Should be stopped gradually.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 4 years (Nerisone Forte), prolonged or extensive use especially pregnant women or continual use as a preventative. Should not be used to treat acne, leg ulcers, scabies, pen-oral dermatitis, tuberculous skin conditions, skin disorders caused by viruses, ringworm, any untreated bacterial or fungal skin infections.

Known Side Effects

Thinning of skin, adrenal gland suppression, hair growth, Cushingoid type symptoms (Cushing's syndrome).
