Nolvadex-D

What is it?

An antioestrogen drug, available as white octagonal tablets containing 20mg of tamoxifen as citrate, marked NOLVADEX-D. Also, NOLVADEX, white tablets containing 10mg of tamoxifen as citrate, marked NOLVADEX 10.

Medical Uses

Female infertility caused byabsence of ovulation, breast cancer.

Dosage

Infertility, 20mg each day on 4 consecutive days starting on second day of menstruation, increasing to 40mg and 80mg for later courses, if necessary. Breast cancer, 20mg each day.

Special Care

Increased risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thromboembolism. Patients should be asked to report abnormal vaginal discharge or bleeding.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Warfarin, other inducers of CYP3A4, rifampicin.

Known Side Effects

Vaginal bleeding, hot flushes, rashes, changes in liver enzymes, dizziness, gastro-intestinal upset, disturbance of vision, changes in cornea, cataracts, retinopathy. In rare cases, uterine sarcoma (malignancy), allergic reactions, cancer of endometrium, interstitial pneumonitis (lung inflammation), high levels of triglycerides (fats) in blood.
