Normax

What is it?

A bowel stimulant and faecal softener available as brown capsules containing 50mg of danthron and 60mg of docusate sodium (codanthrusate), all marked NORMAX. Also, NORMAX SUSPENSION, available as a liquid containing 50mg of danthron and 60mg of docusate sodium (co-danthrusate).

Medical Uses

Constipation in patients who are terminally ill.

Dosage

Adults, 1 to 3 capsules or 5 to 15ml of suspension, taken at night. Children aged over 6 years, 1 capsule or 5ml of suspension, taken at night.

Special Care

Faecal or urinary incontinence.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 6 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding, pains in abdomen, obstruction of the bowel.

Known Side Effects

Discoloured urine; possible risk of tumours developing in liver and bowel.
