Norprolac
What is it?
A dopamine agonist available as tablets in 3 different strengths, all containing quinagolide, as hydrochloride. Pink tablets contain 25µg; blue tablets contain 50µg and white tablets contain 7µg. All are marked with strength and name. Usedfor: hvperprolaetinaemia (high levels of the hormone prolaetin (which stimulates production of breast milk and is involved in the secretion of progesterone) in blood).
Dosage
Adults, 25µg each day at first, taken at bedtime with food for 3 days. Then increase to 50µg once each day, in same way for 3 days and then to 75µg daily. Dose should then be adjusted according to response and is usually in order of 75 to 150µg each day.
Special Care
Previous history of psychotic illness. Women should use non- hormonal contraceptive method during course of treatment and drug should be stopped if pregnancy occurs. Blood pressure must be monitored.
Avoid Use
Children, liver or kidney disease.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Alcohol.
Known Side Effects
Low blood pressure, flushing, fluid retention, insomnia, psychotic reactions, headache, anorexia, gastrointestinal upset, fatigue, dizziness, stuffy nose.
