Nozinan

What is it?

A group I phenothiazine and antipsychotic, available as scored, white tablets containing 25mg of methotrimeprazine maleate, marked NOZINAN 25. Also, NOZINAN INJECTION, containing 2.5% methotrimeprazine hydrochloride as an isotonic solution in ampoules. Usedfor: tablets, schizophrenia, psychoses where sedation is needed, control of terminal pain and accompanying vomiting, distress and restlessness. Injection, for pain and terminal illness in children.

Dosage

Tablets, psychoses, 25 to 50mg each day in patients who can walk about; 100 to 200mg daily for those who cannot. For pain, 12.5 to 50mg every 4 to 8 hours. Injection, adults, for pain, 12.5 to 25mg by intramuscular injection or, after dilution, by intravenous injection, every 6 to 8 hours, with up to 50mg being given for severe cases. Or 25 to 200mg each day diluted with saline, by continuous subcutaneous infusion. Terminal illness in children, 0.35 to 3.0mg each day, intramuscularly or intravenously or by continuous infusion by subcutaneous route.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver disease, Parkinsonism, epilepsy, cardiovascular disease.

Avoid Use

Tablets not for children, bone marrow depression (unless terminal), coma. For drug interactions and side effects, consult manufacturer's literature.
