Olbetam
What is it?
A lipid-lowering, nicotinic acid derivative available as dusky-pink/ red-brown capsules containing 250mg of acipimox.
Medical Uses
Raised protein-bound lipid levels in blood (hyperlipoproteinaemia) of type Ih, IIb and IV.
Dosage
Adults, 2 or 3 tablets each day taken as divided doses with meals. Maximum dosage is 1200mg each day.
Special Care
Moderate to severe kidney disorders.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, children, stomach ulcer.
Known Side Effects
Gastrointestinal upset, flushing, headache, inflammation of skin and mucous membranes (erythema), malaise, skin rash.
