Omacor
What is it?
A lipid lowering agent comprising Omega-3 acid ethyl esters available as soft, clear gelatin capsules containing 46% eicosapentaenoic acid and 38% doeosahexaenoic acid.
Medical Uses
Prevention of second heart attack, high triglyceridelevels in blood (types Ilb, III, and IV).
Dosage
Adults, after heart attack, 1 capsule each day, taken with food; hypertriglyeeridaemia, start with 2 capsules each day taken with food, increasing, if necessary, to 4 capsules.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, other forms of hypertriglyceridaemia (eg arising from diabetes), bleeding abnormalities, liver disease.
Avoid Use
Children.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Anticoagulants.
