Orudis

What is it?

An NSAID available as capsules in 2 strengths both containing ketoprofen. Purple/green capsules and pink capsules contain 50mg and 100mg respectively, both marked with strength and name. Also, ORUDIS SUPPOSITORIES containing 100mg.

Medical Uses

Musculo-skeletal disorders, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, joint disorders, arikylosirig spondylitis, gout, pain following orthopaedic surgery, dysmenorrhoea (period pain) - capsules only.

Dosage

Adults, capsules, 50 to 100mg twice each day with meals; suppositories, 1 at night with capsules taken during the day, if needed.

Special Care

Pregnancy, elderly, heart failure, heart, liver or kidney disorders. Elderly patients should be started on lowest effective dose and carefully monitored for first 4 weeks for bleeding in gastrointestinal tract. Patients taking the drug long-term should receive careful monitoring.

Avoid Use

Children, patients with known allergy to aspirin or NSAID, history of or active stomach ulcer, asthma, serious kidney disease, proctitis (inflammation of rectum and anus) - suppositories only.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Hydantoins, mifepristone, cyclosporin, anticoagulants, sulfonamides, diuretics, high doses of methotrexate, quinolones, cardiac glycosides, corticosteroids, lithium, antihypertensives.

Known Side Effects

Rash, gastrointestinal intolerance, kidney toxicity, malaise, haematological and neurological effects, central nervous system effects, sensation of numbness/tingling/'pins and needles', fatigue, abnormal liver function, mouth inflammation and ulceration, allergic reactions.
