Palladone

What is it?

An analgesic and opiate preparation available as capsules in 2 strengths, all containing hydromorphone hydrochloride. Clear/orange capsules contain 1.3mg and clear/red capsules contain 2.6mg. All are marked with strength and HNR. AIso, PALLADONE SR, sustained - release capsules in various strengths containing hydromorphone hydrochloride. White/yellow capsules contain 2mg; clear/pale blue capsules contain 4mg; clear/pink capsules contain 8mg; clear/brown capsules contain 16mg; clear/dark blue capsules contain 24mg. All are marked with strength and HCR.

Medical Uses

Severe pain caused by cancer.

Dosage

Adults, 4mg every 12 hours at first and then adjust to control pain.

Special Care

Elderly, within 24 hours after operation, kidney or adrenal gland disease, underactive thyroid gland, shock, reduced respiratory function, enlarged prostate gland, chronic obstructive airways disease.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, head injury, raised pressure within skull, depressed respiration, paralytic ileus, convulsions, liver disease, acute alcoholism, coma.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Cns depressants, MAOIs.

Known Side Effects

Drowsiness, gastrointestinal upset, tolerance and dependence.
