Paludrine

What is it?

An antimalarial preparation and biguanide, available as scored, white tablets containing 100mng of proguanil hydrochloride marked P/P. Also, available in travel pack containing 98 Paludrine tablets and 14 Avoclor tablets.

Medical Uses

Prevention of malaria.

Dosage

Adults, 2 tablets taken after food each day starting at least 1 day before entering affected region and continuing for 1 month after leaving. Travel pack, consult manufacturer's instructions. Children, aged under 12 months, 1/4 tablet; aged 1 to 4 years, 1/2 tablet; aged 5 to 8 years, 1 tablet; aged 9 to 14 years, 11/2 tablets. All doses to be taken in same way and for same periods as for adults. Travel pack, consult manufacturer's instructions.

Special Care

Severe kidney failure.

Known Side Effects

Hair loss, ulceration and inflammation of mouth, gastrointestinal upset, skin effects.
