What is it?

A preparation of pancreatic enzymes available as enteric-coated, white tablets with pancreatin equivalent to 5, 600 B. P. units lipase activity, 5,000 B. P. units amylase activity, 330 B. P. units protease activity. Also, PANCREX V TABLETS, enteric- coated, white tablets with pancreatin equivalent to 1, 900 B. P. units lipase activity, 1, 700 B. P. units amylase activity, 110 B. P. units protease activity. Also, PANCREX V CAPSULES, ivory coloured and marked with name and logo, with pancreatin equivalent to 8,000 B. P. units lipase activity, 9,000 B. P. units amylase activity, 430 B. P. units protease activity. Also, PANCREX V CAPSULES '125', clear capsules with pancreatin equivalent to 2, 950 B. P. units lipase activity, 3, 300 B. P. units amylase activity, 160 b. P units protease activity. Also, PANCREX V POWDER, a buff-coloured powder with pancreatin equivalent to 25,000 B. P. units lipase activity, 30,000 B. P. units amylase activity, 1, 400 B. P. units protease activity per g. Also, PANCREX GRANULES, coated granules with pancreatin equivalent to 5,000 B. P. units lipase activity, 4,000 B. Medical Uses

Deficiency df pancreatic enzymes, fibrocystic disease, pancreatic steatorrhoea, digestive aid following surgical removal of stomach.

Dosage

Forte tablets, 6 to 10 before each meal; Pancrex V Tablets, 5 to 15 before each meal. Pancrex V capsules, adults and children, other than infants, 2 to 6 capsules with meals; infants, open 1 to 2 capsules and mix contents with meal. V capsules '125', newborn babies, mix contents of 1 to 2 capsules with feeds. Powder, 0.5 to 2g either swallowed with each meal or mixed with water or milk and taken with meal. Newborn babies, 0.25 to 0.5g added to each feed. Granules, 5 to 10g either swallowed with each meal or mixed with water or milk and taken with meal.

Avoid Use

Granules only, patients with galactosaemia, lactose insufficiency, galactose/glucose malabsorption syndrome.

Known Side Effects

Irritation of mouth and pen- anal region.
