Parvolex
What is it?
An amino acid preparation used to treat drug overdose and available as a solution in ampoules for injection containing 200mg of acetylcysteine per ml. Acetylcysteine acts to protect the liver from damage.
Medical Uses
Paracetamol overdose.

Special Care
History of bronchospasm or asthma. Vomiting should be induced if patient is treated within 4 hours of overdose. Plasma concentrations of potassium require monitoring. Patients who have chronic alcohol problem, malnourishment or who are on drugs that induce liver enzymes may be more at risk if overdose of paracetamol is taken.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Metals and rubber.
Known Side Effects
Rash, slow heartbeat, liver impairment, fainting, allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, cardiac or respiratory arrest.
