Pavacol-D

What is it?

A demulcent and opiate preparation available as a cough mixture containing 5mg of pholcodine and volatile and aromatic oils.

Medical Uses

Cough

Dosage

Adults, 5 to 10ml, as needed. Children aged 110 2 years, 2.5ml 3 to 4 times each day; aged 3 to 5 years, 5ml 3 times each day; aged 6 to 12 years, 5ml 4 to 5 times each day.

Special Care

High blood pressure, raised pressure within eye, diabetes, enlarged prostate gland, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).

Avoid Use

Children under 1 year.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Other sympathomimetics, furazolidone, MAOIs, appetite suppressant drugs, tricyclic antidepressants.

Known Side Effects

Dry mouth, raised heartbeat, stimulation of central nervous system, heart arrythmias.
