Percuvac
What is it?
A preparation of live attenuated vaccine available as a powder in vials for reconstitution and injection containing 50 to 25OX101 units of Mycobacterium bovis per vial.
Medical Uses
Immunisation against tuberculosis.
Dosage
Children, infants and newborn babies, by percutaneous vaccination and multiple puncture technique. Manufacturer's literature should be consulted.
Special Care
Viral infections, eczema affecting injection site, Hodgkins disease. No vaccinations should be given into arm used for Percuvac for at least 3 months due to risk of lymphadenitis (inflammation of lymph nodes).
Avoid Use
Adults (usually), pregnancy, breastfeeding, HIV - confirmed or suspected, fever, lowered immunity, testing positive for tuberculin, malignancy.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Immunosuppressants, anti TB treatments, corticosteroids.
Known Side Effects
Headache, fever, pain, malaise, local effects, discharging ulcer, regional lymphadenopathy.
