Persantin Retard

What is it?

An anti-platelet drug available as sustained-release, orange/red capsules enclosing yellow pellets containing 200mg of dipyridamole Also, PERSANTIN TABLETS, available as sugar-coated orange and white tablets containing 25mg and 100mg of dipyridamole. Usedfor: capsules, prevention of second ischaemic stroke and transient ischaemic attack, either as sole treatment or combined with aspirin. Capsules and tablets, additional therapy along with oral anticoagulants to prevent thrombosis of artificial heart valves.

Dosage

Adults, capsules, 1 twice each day taken with meals. Tablets, 300600mg each day in 3 or 4 doses taken before meals. Children, tablets only, 5mg per kg of body weight as divided doses each day.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, myasthenia gravis, narrowing of aorta below valves, severe disease of coronary arteries, haemodynamic instability.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Drugs that lower blood pressure, cholinesterase inhibitors, adenosine.

Known Side Effects

Gastro-intestinal upset, giddiness, headache, low blood pressure, muscle pain, rash, flushes.
