Picolax

What is it?

An osmotic and stimulant preparation available as a powder in sachets containing 10mg of sodium picosulphate and 13.1g of magnesium citrate.

Medical Uses

To evacuate bowel before surgical procedure, endoscopy or radiography.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 9 years, contents of 1 sachet should be added to water and drunk before breakfast on day before procedure. Then dose should be repeated after 6 to 8 hours. Children, aged 1 to 2 years, 1/4 of a sachet in morning and afternoon; aged 2 to 4 years, 1/z sachet, morning and afternoon; aged 4 to 9 years, 1 sachet in morning and '/z in afternoon. All day before procedure.

Special Care

Inflammatory bowel disorders. Patients should be advised to drink lots of water and adopt low residue diet in days before procedure.

Avoid Use

Severe kidney disorder, obstruction in gastrointestinal tract, confirmed or suspected toxic dilation of colon.
