What is it?
A vasodilator and antiplatelet drug available as white tablets containing 100mg of cilostazol, marked 0G30.
Medical Uses
In patients with intermittent claudication who do not experience pain while resting and who have no necrosis of peripheral tissues, to improve pain-free walking distances.
Dosage
Adults, 1 tablet twice each day, taken either /z hour before or 2 hours after breakfast and dinner in evening.
Special Care
Diabetes, atrial flutter or fibrillation or ectopy, ventricular ectopy. Patients should be asked to report bruising or bleeding.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, moderate to severe liver disease, severe kidney disease, QTc prolongation (a portion of ECG), previous ventricular arrhythmia, tendency for bleeding, congestive heart failure.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Cisapride, other substrates or inhibitors of CYP3A4 or 2C19, aspirin, vasodilators, omeprazole, ciraetidine, lansoprazgle, midazolam, ketoconazole, protease inhibitors, antiplatelet drugs, agents that lower blood pressure, erythromycin, verapamil, dilitiazem, nifedipine, drugs that are highly bound to proteins.
Known Side Effects
Pharyngitis, weakness, muscle pain, angina, gastrointestinal upset, palpitations, headaches, infection, feeling of numbness/ tingling/'pins and needles', fluid retention and swelling of extremities, cough, increased risk of bleeding. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
