Pneumovax II

What is it?

A preparation of pneumococcal vaccine, available as a solution for injection, containing 25µg of 23 types of pneumococcus per 0.5ml as a purified mixture of capsular polysaccharides. Used fbr: immunization against pneumococcal disease.

Dosage

Adults and children aged 2 years and over, 0.5ml by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, infections or feverish illnesses, revaccination - consult manufacturer's literature.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 2 years

Known Side Effects

Fever, local skin reactions, relapse of patients with stabilized thrombocytopenic purpura (a bleeding disorder characterized by haemorrhage beneath the skin and mucous membranes).
