PNU-Imune
What is it?
A preparation of pneumococcal vaccine, available as a solution for injection, containing 25µg of 23 types of pneumococcus per 0.5ml as a purified mixture of capsular polysaccharides.
Medical Uses
Immunization against pneumococcal disease.
Dosage
Adults and children aged 2 years and over, 0.5ml by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Special cure: previous infection caused by pneumoccocal organisms; revaccination - manufacturer's literature should be consulted.
Avoid Use
Children aged under 2 years, pregnancy, breastfeeding, acute fever, less than 10 days before, or during therapy to suppress immune system, patients with Hodgkins disease who have received irradiation of nodes or prolonged chemotherapy. Treatment should be discontinued if neurological signs occur.
Known Side Effects
Fever, local skin reactions, relapse of patients with stabilized thrombocytopenic purpura (a bleeding disorder characterized by haemorrhage beneath the skin and mucous membranes).
