Polyfax

What is it?

A preparation of peptide antibiotics available as an ointment containing 10,000 units polymyxin B sulphate and 500 units bacitracin zinc per gram.

Medical Uses

Eye infections including conjunctivitis, keratitis, styes, blepharitis. Prevention of infection after removal of foreign objects from the eye or surgery. Also, impetigo, infected burns and skin infections.

Dosage

Apply thinly at least twice each day.

Special Care

Patients with extensive, open wounds.

Known Side Effects

Skin sensitization, toxic effects on kidneys.
