Predsol

What is it?

A steroid colorectal agent available as an enema containing 20mg of prednisolone as disodium phosphate. Also, PREDSOL SUPPOSITORIES containing 5mg prednisolone (as disodium phosphate).

Medical Uses

Enema, rectosigmoidal disease in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis; suppositories, proctitis (inflammation of rectum) and anal disorders resulting from Crohn's disease (a disorder of the intestine or part of digestive tract in which there is inflammation and ulceration).

Dosage

Adults, enema, 1 at night for 2, 3 or 4 weeks; suppositories, 1 every night and morning after passing stool.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding; short-term use only.

Avoid Use

Children, bacterial, fungal, tuberculous or viral infections.

Known Side Effects

Systemic glucocorticoid effects, e. g. mood swings, euphoria and depression, changes as in Cushing's syndrome, peptic ulcer, hyperglycaemia, osteoporosis.
