Pregaday
What is it?
A haematinic preparation available as film-coated, red tablets containing ferrous fumerate equivalent to 100mg of iron and 350µg of folic acid, all marked with name.
Medical Uses
Prevention of iron and folic aciddeficiency in last 2/3 of pregnancy.
Dosage
Pregnant women, 1 tablet each day.
Special Care
Previous stomach ulcer, tumours that respond to fulate, first 3 months of pregnancy.
Avoid Use
Repeated blood transfusion, haemosiderosis (abnormal deposition of iron in tissues), haemochromatosis (disease of metabolism of iron causing excess deposition of iron in body tissues), paroxysmal haemoglobinuria occurring at night (excess haemoglobin in urine), active stomach ulcer, ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis, deficiency of vitamin Biz.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Anticonvulsants, cotrimoxazole, tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, cholestyramine, antacids, sulphasalazine, pencillamine.
Known Side Effects
Allergic responses, gastrointestinal upset.
