What is it?
A gonadotrophin available as a powder with solvent in ampoules for injection in 2 strengths, containing 1500iu and 5000iu of chorionic gonadotrophin.
Medical Uses
Males, underactivity of sexual organs due to lack of gonadotrophin (hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism), deficiency or lack of sperm production, delayed puberty. Females, infertility due to failure of ovulation or ripening of follicles; with other treatment (HMG or recombinant FSH) to bring about superovulation in WF treatment.
Dosage
Adults, males, hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism, 500 to 1000iu by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection 2 or 3 times each week. Delayed puberty, 1500iu in same way, twice each week for 6 months. Other uses, consult manufacturer's literature. Females, infertility, 5,000 to 10,000iu by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, after treatment with FSH or HMG. A further 3 injections of up to 5,000iu may be needed during the next 9 days. Superovulation, 5,000 to 10,000iu by subcutaneous or intramuscular route, to be given 30 to 40 hours after last HMG or FSH treatment.
Special Care
Epilepsy, high blood pressure, heart or kidney disorders. Hormone levels should be monitored.
Avoid Use
Cancers responsive to androgens.
