What is it?
A preparation of human chorionic gonadotrophin available as powder in ampoules, with solvent for reconstitution and injection, at strengths of 500, 1500 and 5000 units.
Medical Uses
Underdevelopment of male sexual organs, deficient production of sperm, delayed puberty in males; infertility due to lack of maturing of follicles and ovulation in females. Along with human menopausal gonadotrophin to produce superovulation for in vitro fertilization treatment.
Dosage
Male adults, hypogonadism, 500-1000 units 2 or 3 times each week by intramuscular injection. Delayed puberty, 1500 units twice each week by intramuscular injection for at least 6 months. Females, infertility, following treatment with human menopausal gonadotrophin, 5000-10000 units by intramuscular injection. Then 3 further injections of 5000 units during the next 9 days. Superovulation, 30 to 40 hours after injection with human menopausal gonadotrophin, 5000-10000 units by intramuscular injection.
Special Care
Patients with heart or kidney disorders, epilepsy, hypertension, migraine, hormone levels should be monitored in female patients.
Avoid Use
Children, patients with androgen-dependent cancers.
