Proscar

What is it?

A preparation which is a selective 5-α reductase inhibitor available as film-coated, apple-shaped blue tablets containing 5mg of finasteride marked with name and MSD 72.

Medical Uses

Benign enlargement of the prostate gland, to lessen retention of urine and need for corrective operation.

Dosage

1 tablet each day for at least 6 months, then continuing long-term if condition is responding. Special cure: obstruction or disease of genital/urinary tract. Presence of cancer should be eliminated before treatment begins and during therapy. Women may absorb drug via semen through sexual intercourse or by handling tablets-risk in pregnancy.

Avoid Use

Patients with prostate cancer.

Known Side Effects

Decreased libido, impotence, reduced volume of ejaculate possibly affecting fertility, allergic reactions and nettle rash, enlarged, tender breasts, pain in testicles. Manujuicturer: M.S.D.
