Pyrogastrone

What is it?

A compound preparation combining an antacid and cytoprotectant available as off-white tablets containing 20mg of carbenoxolone sodium, 60mg of magnesium trisilicate, 240mg of dried aluminium hydroxide and a base containing 240mg of alginic acid and sodium bicarbonate, marked with symbol and name.

Medical Uses

Gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD), oesophagitis.

Dosage

Adults, 1 tablet 3 times each day after meals plus 2 tablets at bedtime. All tablets should be chewed.

Special Care

Patients with fluid and salt retention.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy, children, elderly, low blood potassium levels, heart, liver or kidney failure.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Antihypertensives, diuretics, hydroxychloroquine, lithium, iron, antibacterials, digoxin, penicillamine, antiarrhythmics, analgesics.

Known Side Effects

High blood pressure, heart failure, low blood potassium levels, retention of water and salt.
