What is it?

A preparation of deactivated rabies virus available as a powder in vial with diluent for reconstitution and injection containing 2.5iu Flury LEP strain per ml.

Medical Uses

Rabies.

Dosage

Adults and children, by intramuscular injection into deltoid region or front and side part of thigh in small children. Avoid injecting into buttocks. Prevention, 1ml on days 0, 7, 21 and 28 with booster doses every 2 to 5 years. Treatment, if previously vaccinated, 1ml on days 0 and 3.Treatment for those not immunised or if immunisation is not complete, 1ml on days 0, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 90. In high risk situations, also give 20iu of rabies immunoglobulin per kg of body weight as a single injection.

Special Care

Pregnancy, debility, immunodeficiency. If patient is ill, delayvaccination.

Known Side Effects

Reactions at injection site, malaise, fever. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
