Regranex

What is it?

A preparation of growth factor available as a gel containing 0.01% becaplermin. Usedfor: neuropsthic diabetic ulcers not exceeding 5cm2 surface area.

Dosage

Gel should be applied once each day after ulcer has been cleaned and then covered with gauze dressing moistened with saline. Treatment should continue for 10 weeks and then evaluate -withdraw if not responding. If response is good, continue until healed.

Special Care

Infected ulcer, previous malignancy. Malignancy, osteomyelitis and peripheral arteriopathy (disease of peripheral arteries) should be ruled out before beginning treatment.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, cancer near or at site of treatment.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Other preparations applied topically.

Known Side Effects

Pain, reddening, infection and ulceration. In rare cases, fluid retention, bullous eruption. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
