Rogitine

What is it?

An α-blocker and anti- hypertensive available as a solution in ampoules containing 10mg of phentolamine mesylate per ml.

Medical Uses

High blood pressure associated with phaeochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumour).

Dosage

Adults, 2 to 5mng by intravenous injection, repeated if required. Children, 1mg by intravenous injection.

Special Care

Elderly, pregnancy, breastfeeding, asthma, gastritis (stomach inflammation), kidney disorder, stomach ulcer. Haemodynamics require monitoring.

Avoid Use

Low blood pressure, weak heart, heart attack, hypersensitivity to sulphites, disease and insufficiency of coronary arteries.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Antihypertensives, antipsychotics.

Known Side Effects

Weakness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, heart attack, occlusion of arteries supplying brain, apprehension, sweating, dizziness, low blood pressure, flushes, blocked nose, gastrointestinal upset. In rare cases, arrhythmia, chest pain, angina.
