Rythmodan
What is it?
A class I antiarrhythmic available as capsules in 2 different strengths, both containing disopyramide. Green/beige contain 100mg marked RY R; white contain 150mg, marked RY 150.A1so, RYTHMODAN RETARD, 250mg of disopyramide phosphate in film-coated, white, sustained-release tablets marked RY and R with symbol. Also, RYTHMODAN INJECTION, containing 10mg of disopyramide as phosphate per ml in ampoules.
Medical Uses
Heart arrhythmias
Dosage
Adults, capsules, 300 to 800mg each day in divided doses. Rythmodan Retard, 1 to 1 1/z tablets twice each day. Injection, by slow intravenous injection or infusion according to manufacturer's literature.
Special Care
Pregnancy, 1st degree atrioventricular block (slowed conduction or stopped heart impulse), heart, liver or kidney failure, enlarged prostate, urine retention, low blood potassium levels, glaucoma. Heart failure should be treated with cardiac glycosides.
Avoid Use
Children, 2nd or 3rd degree atrioventricular block, severe uncompensated heart failure, heart shock, disease of sinus node in absence of pacemaker.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
β-blockers, anticholinergics, diuretics, other class I antiarrhythmics, erythromycin.
Known Side Effects
Anticholinergic effects. In extremely rare cases, jaundice, hypoglycaemia, psychosis.
