Salamol Inhaler
What is it?
A preparation which is a bronchodilator and selective lz-agofist available as a metered dose aerosol for delivering 100µg of salbutamol per dose. Also, SALAMOL EASIBREATHE, for use with a breath-activated inhaler delivering 100µg of salbutamol per dose Also, SALAMOL STERI-NEB available as a preservative-free solution for nebulization containing 2.5mg and 5mg salbutamol as sulphate per 2.5ml, as single dose units.
Medical Uses
Salamol Inhaler and EasiBreathe, prevention of asthma caused by exercise, treatment of asthma and chronic bronchitis. Salamol SteriNeb, severe bronchospasm and acute severe asthma which has failed to respond to other drugs.
Dosage
Salamol inhaler and EasiBreathe, adults, for attack, 1 or 2 puffs; prevention, 2 puffs before exercise. Maximum dose is 8 puffs every 24 hours. Children, acute attack, 1 or 2 puffs; prevention, 2 puffs before exercise. Maximum dose, 8 puffs in 24 hours. Salamol Steri-Neb, adults and children, 2.5mg nebulized 3 or 4 times each day increasing to 5mg, 3 to 4 times daily, if needed.
Special Care
Pregnancy, weak heart, heart arrhythmias, angina, high blood pressure, over-active thyroid gland.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
β-blockers, sympathomimetics.
Known Side Effects
Headache, dilation of peripheral blood vessels, tremor, low blood potassium levels. Any adverse side effects using inhaler should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM). Manuf ncturer: Ivax.
