Salbulin

What is it?

A bronchodilator which is a selective lIz-agonist available as a metered dose aerosol delivering 100µg of salbutamol per dose.

Medical Uses

Bronchospasm in bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, prevention of asthma caused by exercise.

Dosage

Adults, attack, 1 or 2 puffs; prevention, 2 puffs before exercise. Children, attack, same as adult dose; prevention, 1 or 2 puffs before exercise. Maximum dose of 8 puffs in 24 hours for both adults and children.

Special Care

Pregnancy, over-active thyroid gland, high blood pressure, angina, heart arrhythmia, weak heart.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

β-blockers, sympathomimetics.

Known Side Effects

Headache, paradoxical bronchospasm, tremor, low blood potassium levels, widespread swelling due to fluid retention, rapid heartbeat, hypersensitivity.
