Sanomigran

What is it?

A serotonin antagonist available as sugar-coated, ivory-coloured tablets in 2 strengths containing 0.5mg and 1.5mg of pizotifen (as hydrogen maleate), marked SMG and SMG 1.5 respectively. Also, SANOMIGRAN ELIXIR containing 0.25mg of pizotifen per 5ml as a sugar- free solution.

Medical Uses

Prevention of migraine, cluster headache and vascular headache.

Dosage

Adults, generally 1.Smg each day in 3 divided doses or 1 dose taken at bedtime. Dosage may be increased to a maximum of 4.5mg each day if needed with up to 3mg as a maximum single dose. Children, up to 1.5mg each day in divided doses or 1mg as a single night time dose.

Special Care

Pregnancy, impaired kidney function, urine retention, glaucoma.

Avoid Use

Glaucoma.
